Why Heuristic UX Matters:
Imagine catching usability issues before they snowball into major problems. With Heuristic UX, that’s exactly what you can do! This method lets you evaluate a website or app against established usability principles, pinpointing potential pain points for users. It’s like having a secret weapon to save time, resources, and ultimately, create delightful user experiences.
The Case Study:
For my case study, I dove into different web portal & took screenshots of each step of my journey, pasting them into a PowerPoint and then making notes on the severity of issues and usability problems based on my observations.
10 Heuristics: Your UX Toolkit:
Now, let’s unlock the power of 10 key heuristics! Think of them as your UX compass, guiding you towards a user-centric design. Here’s a sneak peek:
- Visibility of system status: Users should always know what’s happening with the system. (Imagine a loading bar that never moves — frustrating, right?)
- Match between system and the real world: Speak your users’ language! Use terms and concepts they understand.
- User control and freedom: Let users undo mistakes and easily navigate back and forth. Think “undo” buttons and clear menus.
- Consistency and standards: Maintain a consistent look and feel throughout the experience. Imagine buttons that change colors on every page — confusing!
- Error prevention: Help users avoid errors in the first place. Clear instructions and intuitive design are key.
- Recognition over recall: Minimize the need for users to remember things. Let the interface guide them intuitively.
- Flexibility and efficiency for users of all skill levels: Cater to diverse users with varying needs and abilities.
- Aesthetic and minimalist design: Keep it clean and clutter-free — focus on what matters most to users.
- Help users diagnose and correct errors: Make error messages clear and helpful, guiding users towards a solution.
- Help and documentation: Offer easily accessible help and documentation for when users need it most.
