Adiyogi Wall Painting — A Lockdown Art
Story
It was an usual day during the lockdown period, when everyone was forced to be locked down in their homes. Artists like us are always doing their jobs of creativity.
I’m sure this lockdown gave everyone enough time to do what was in their minds from decades ago and that’s the same case with us. It was an usual day and my friend (Vipul Sodhi) was just talking about what to do next ? What will be our next BIG thing. During the conversation there was a post that came in my news feed titled as “Artist paints his Inner wall during Lockdown”. I liked the idea of doing wall art & why not? As we are spending most of our lifetime inside our home. So I discussed it with Vipul and after a10 seconds of pause he said WHY NOT BRO!! Let’s Plan for wall painting & yes we agreed. It can be done on weekends & our mission started, for ease I break apart our journey into 3 segments.
Phase -1 : Brainstorming The Idea:
It’s always good to have a plan before execution to know ups & downs, generally speaking for artists like us there are even more options open because we deal with so many designs, graphic styles & many more so there was a big confusion for us to choose between available options, hence we decided to take 30 minutes max. To finalize & to come up with 5 ideas for wall painting.
Trust me, those 30 minutes were like hell, exchanging ideas, continuous rejection, taking care of parents’ views & what not. We wanted to keep every one’s perspective with effective overall output. Finally we agreed on a post — Adiyogi Mandala art, Which Vipul did for his instagram post earlier
So our Idea is freezed and now we were ready for the second phase.
Phase-2 Finding the right Canvas & Challenges :
Finding a suitable canvas is an easy job, we just need a blank wall Right? Nope, it also became a challenge for us. Generally in our indian homes we have frames or decorations on every wall, so It took me a while to decide which Wall I can say Tata bye-bye those frames & decor (Including Mom permission).
Photoshop Magic :
As we are habitual of using photo manipulation tools, we made a photo before actually starting the idea execution to know how painting would look on the chosen wall.
Phase-3 Sketch to Paint :
Like every problem in our life, we all faced with some unique challenges, the same happened with us as well & I’m glad to share that we came up with some Unique style Jugaads to solve those. Although they took some time but they are worth to Apply as famous quote says “Keep Patience , patience pays”
Challenges We Faced :
1. How to draw faces (Most prominent feature) accurately ?
Our solution — Projection from Sheet
2. How to create Circles of Mandala ?
Our Solution — Tied a rope with pencil
3. How to Draw effortlessly on an uneven wall surface ?
Our Solution : A gentle treat to the wall with sandpaper to make it smooth , filled holes with POP & then a paint coat to make it smooth.
Note : We also need to redraw the whole sketch because after the sandpaper treatment & paint coat all the initial sketch is vanished so we do that projection again & redraw the sketch on white wall.
Result :
The result was worth spending 3 weekends (30 -35 hours) on 2 meter by 2 meter painting, it’s always too great to be a volunteer & be a part of that awesome things, I really want to thanks @Pularts @sucreate for their awesome post collaboration from where these are started must follow them those are great artist.
